The Ministry of Labour and employment vide a notification dated 1st March 2019 has amended Rule 59 of ESI (Central) Rules and declared enhancement in the funeral expenses under ESI Scheme. The ESI Corporation during its 175th Meeting held on 18.09.18 has taken some very important decisions towards improvements in its services and benefits being provided to Insured Persons and their dependents. In this meeting ESI Corporation has approved the proposal for increasing the Funeral Expenses.
Funeral expense is the amount given to the elder most member of the deceased insured person or any other person who perform funeral rituals of a deceased person. To give effect to the provisions of the Scheme, the Govt of India vide a notification has declared the enhancement of funeral expenses from existing Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 w.e.f 1st March 2019.
ESIC also, by a letter dated 25th March 2019 has directed to Insurance Commissioners to refer notification of Government Of India, Ministry of Labour and Employment regarding amendment in Rule 59 of ESI(central) Rules and has instructed its regional offices to comply with the enhanced funeral expenses from Rs.10000 to Rs.15000.
